According to CSIRO (Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization), in the next decade, astronomers expect to be processing 10 petabytes of data every hour from the Square Kilometre Array telescope.The array is thus expected to generate approximately one exabyte every four days of operation. (One exabyte = 1 quintillion bytes).
Funny I read about a peta-byte of information back in the mid 90's. Supposedly it is equivalent to a lifetime of information or about 1,000,000,000,000,000 byte. Now they are talking about exa-bytes? Amazing.
