Since 1972, the Iowa Caucus has marked the beginning of nominating process for the POTUS. As as rule of thumb, potential primary candidates will make forays into the Iowan territory, prior to the caucus, to test the waters.
According to the Weekly Standard, General David Petraeus, architect and engineer of the Surge, will be giving the commencement address at the University of Iowa in 2010.
This just might be a coincidence, nevertheless, it does make you wonder about his intentions. His presence on the political battlefield would shake things up dramatically.
Just a bit of trivia, the last time America had a President who was considered career military was Dwight D. Eisenhower and the last President to have seen major combat was George Bush I.
